Tom Chi spoke at the Mind the Product conference last year. I went, it was fantastic. You should check his talk out.
He used prototyping not just to test out design ideas and not just to uncover new design questions. From the start, prototyping was his entire design process. You can call it concepting or product exploration if you like, but his relentless focus on making prototypes certainly produced results.
Tom talks here only about ergonomic and utilitarian design questions; the sort of things that computer science grads would want to solve. Google are launching Glass as a $1,500 developer project, which is a launch strategy that few companies can pursue. I’m very interested in how they will position Google Glass as a consumer product. What value and promise would make put those on your face and say, go on the tube?
